Nail'd Game Review

Nail'd is an off-road arcade style racer which focuses on speed and chaos rather than real physics. We have seen this in recent racing games like Pure and the Motorstorm franchise, but the majority of modern-day racing games focus on realistic physics and arcade racing fans have been left with little to cheer about. Nail'd is the latest arcade-racer to hit the market and although it's not perfect, it's extremely fun.

The games setup is very simple, the main focus is on Career Mode, where you can race with either an ATV or MX Bike where you can race through several leagues and courses in quest of winning the Nail'd Championship. Most races consist of 3 laps around a course, however, Nail'd will sometimes mix the action up a bit, "mutators" add quirks such as infinite boosts, or no collision with other drivers to races. Or there are Stunt Challenges were you will have to complete tracks within a specific time while performing some of the many impressive tricks to gain a high score. There is a great deal of variety with the tricks, however, something as stupid as running another player off a track can be considered a trick which is a bit strange. The game also contains multiplayer racing for up to 12 players at one time, this will likely be the portion of the game which will hold players interests for a long time.

The object of Nail'd is not to precisely turn corners with perfection, avoid collisions, and perfect your race. The object of Nail'd is to complete your race in the fastest time possible, while managing to pull off the most chaotic moves in frantic and thrilling situations. There is nothing more thrilling than hitting a ramp at a thousand miles an hour and avoiding hot air balloons that block your way. If you are looking for a realistic racing experience, then look somewhere else. Nail'd is the complete opposite of a game like Forza or Gran Turismo. Nail'd is just pure arcade adrenaline fun at it's best. You will more or less always be in control of your bike or ATV leading to crazy moments of in-air manoeuvring and blood-rushing moments of insane and unreal jumps.

One of the biggest disappointments for me was the wreck and respawn system which just doesn't work as intended, rather than keeping you on course, the respawn system will often lead you astray. The games momentum is ruined because there is no indication of what is acceptable here, you will find your'self exploding after landing in an area from a jump which seemed to be part of the track. When i play an arcade-style racer i never look for realism, but when my vehicle explodes with the slightest touch from anything off the track i find it to be really cheap.

The multiplayer was slightly disappointing as well, i found that the courses were the reason i beat my fellow competitors rather than my actual racing skills. The main problem i have with Nail'd (as a Huge Pure fan) is that it doesn't deliver anything new or unique and whatever it does deliver is average. I would much rather play Pure again or even one of the games in the Motorstorm franchise because they have the depth and unique additions that Nail'd lacks.

Overall Nail'd is not a bad game at all, it's quite fun and players will have a decent experience. However, if you have played any of the recent modern-day arcade-style racers such as Pure or Motorstorm, you will be very disappointed with the lack of inventive unique additions to this game genre. The game is poorly made in certain areas and feels like an out of date title.

Nail'd is a fairly good arcade-style racer suffering from too many problems 5.5/10
